J R Adams MAN

J R Adams started in the early 1930’s. The founder of the company Jakey Adams as he was known started with a horse and cart in the East End of Newcastle.

By the Mid 30’s the horse was replaced with a Model T Ford. Jakey was off and running .

He was joined in the company by Joe Bell and George Thomas . These two employees went on to over 100 years loyal service.

His fleet had reached double figures when Nationalized in 1947. During the following years Jakey used to drive vehicles in the BRS livery. Denationalization happened in 1955 and Jakey bought the fleet back from the government and was up and trading again. The photo is courtesy of and copyrighted to Kieran Robson.
