On Point Logistics

The latest, eye-catching recruit to the all-Mercedes-Benz fleet of Birmingham-based On Point Logistics UK is a long-distance 26-tonner with steering tag axle for enhanced manoeuvrability.

The Actros 2532 was supplied by Dealer Midlands Truck & Van, a close neighbour in the city’s Saltley district. Finished in the operator’s distinctive red, white and blue livery, it has an aerodynamic StreamSpace cab and state-of-the-art 235 kW (320 hp) six-cylinder engine. Its curtainside body, meanwhile, is by Fred Smith & Sons, of West Bromwich, and the vehicle carries a rear-slung Moffet Mounty fork-lift.

Founded four years ago and run by brothers Carl and Anthony Delaney, respectively the Managing Director and Sales Director, On Point Logistics UK is a member of the Road Haulage Association and a FORS- (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) and ISO90001-certified specialist in time critical and dedicated haulage.

The company’s name is derived from a military term meaning the lead position in a combat formation – former sniper Carl Delaney and Sales Manager Simon Smith served in the same regiment, the Royal Green Jackets.

In 2014 On Point Logistics UK joined forces with neighbouring Deltrans Express, a business owned by the brothers’ father, Tony, which has been providing client-focused logistics services to leading names within the telecoms and IT industry for many years.

Between them, the two companies run 20 trucks of varying sizes and specifications, as well as 10 Sprinter vans. Other recent arrivals include a 4x2 Actros 1848 LnR (low frame height) tractor unit with range-topping GigaSpace cab and 350 kW (476 hp) straight-six.

“A strong brand image is important to us and whether they’re in On Point or Deltrans colours, our vehicles always look fantastic,” commented Anthony Delaney. “We fit wing deflectors and backlit three-pointed stars on the grilles, because if you have a good looking truck it reflects well on the business, which is half the battle.”

On Point Logistics and Deltrans Express work for an impressive roll call of ‘blue chip’ clients, yet both are proud to have retained their family busines ethos. As well as general and contract haulage, time-critical deliveries and telecoms and IT relocations, they also offer wide load services and secure storage.

“Our heavy trucks spend a lot of time in Europe and the drivers love the size, practicality and comfort of their flat-floored BigSpace and GigaSpace cabs,” said Mr Delaney. “We equip them with fridges and microwave ovens, so they’re a real home from home. It’s hard to find good drivers these days and we’re determined to look after ours by providing them with the very best vehicles.”

He continued: “Our trucks are also highly fuel-efficient, thanks in part to their optional Predictive Powertrain Control systems, but it is their outstanding reliability, above all else, which explains why we remain loyal to Mercedes-Benz.
