OOCL liveried Turners vehicles

One of Britain’s biggest privately-owned transport companies, Newmarket-based Turners, has set the first five Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units to work on its prestigious contract with global shipping giant OOCL.

Based at the Daventry International Rail Terminal, they are 2545 models with aerodynamic StreamSpace cabs and 330 kW (450 hp) engines driving through Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.

Turners’ fleet of 1,100 trucks includes some 310 Mercedes-Benz Actros supplied by East Anglian Dealer Orwell Truck & Van, 210 of which are from the latest model generation. They operate from a network of 32 locations nationwide.

Its latest vehicles are the first to wear the livery of integrated international container transport company OOCL. The new Actros, which replace trucks by another manufacturer that have now been stood down, are collecting containers arriving at the Daventry terminal on freight trains, and delivering them to their final destinations around the country.

Karl Rolfe, General Manager of Turners’ Container Division, said: “The Actros we’re running elsewhere have been faultlessly reliable, and are also the most economical vehicles on the fleet. It was only natural therefore, that when the trucks on our OOCL account came up for renewal, we would replace then with Mercedes-Benz units.”

He continued: “The Actros is a smart, professional looking truck, while the customer-focused service we receive from both Mercedes-Benz UK and Orwell Truck & Van is also excellent.”
