Total Recycling

Total Recycling Services had no intention of shopping around for its latest vehicle – instead, the Darlington-based company went straight back to Dealer Bell Truck and Van for another tried and tested Mercedes-Benz.

Total Recycling Services was established in 2009 and has remained loyal to the three-pointed star ever since. To a fleet of 15 Actros, Axor and Econic models, the operator has now added its first truck from the muscular Arocs range.

The firm was founded by Managing Director Alex Foreman – he and his senior team boast many years of experience in both the hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling sector. This, combined with their expert understanding of environmental best practice, allows Total Recycling not only to provide professional waste management services but also to assist its customers in applying systems for waste prevention, minimisation and reuse.

The 8x4 Arocs 3240 is fitted with Hiab Multilift hook-loading gear and is delivering 40 cubic yard roll-on, roll-off skips to commercial customers as far afield as Glasgow, Immingham and Liverpool. Full skips are collected and returned to Total’s transfer station, where the contents are sorted, baled then forwarded to recycling plants in the UK and worldwide.

General Manager Paul Mitchell says: “Mercedes-Benz is world-renowned for its build quality and we wouldn’t buy any other make of truck. Its vehicles are extremely reliable and cost-effective, and our drivers love them too.

“We’d been hearing reports that the Arocs is very fuel efficient, and the early returns would seem to bear this out. Economy and emission reductions are important, because as waste management and recycling specialists we are very aware of our responsibility to the environment.

“The Arocs is also supremely capable,” he continues. “I attended a launch event in Germany where I had the opportunity to drive one around a demanding course in a quarry. Compared to this, getting on and off landfill sites will be no problem.”

Available in a huge number of variants, the muscular Arocs range comprises tractors and four-, six- and eight-wheeled rigids, with gross weights from 18 to 250 tonnes. All combine previously unseen levels of performance and efficiency, with state-of-the-art Euro VI engines that offer mpg savings of up to 5% compared to equivalent, previous models. AdBlue consumption, meanwhile, is reduced by as much as 40%.

Mr Mitchell adds: “I’ve worked with Mercedes-Benz and Bell Truck and Van for many years and they look after us very well – on the rare occasions that anything crops up it’s always dealt with promptly.”
