Dyce Carriers

Aberdeen-based Dyce Carriers booked some five-star accommodation for its drivers in the shape of a quintet of Mercedes-Benz New Actros tractor units with range-topping GigaSpace cabs.

Supplied by Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Aberdeen, all are 2551 models powered by state-of-the-art 375 kW (510 hp) straight-six engines driving through the latest Mercedes PowerShift automated transmissions.

Dyce Carriers, which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, has headquarters in Aberdeen and depots in Dalgety Bay, Fife, and Poole, Dorset. Its New Actros are on general haulage duties nationwide and represent additions to the company fleet, which now numbers 72 trucks, as well as a handful of vans and pick-ups.

Managing Director Jason Moir says: “We’ve had Actros tractors in the past and they’ve been good solid performers but the significant investments Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Aberdeen has been making to improve its facilities recently have convinced us that the high quality back-up we demand is also in place. The dealer has given us all the assurances we could ask for about the level of service we’ll receive.

Mr Moir continues: “The New Actros, meanwhile, is a very striking piece of kit, with real presence on the road – ours have already attracted a lot of positive comments from customers and transport enthusiasts via our web site, and the drivers’ comments have been extremely positive too.”

Mercedes-Benz Agility offers all the benefits of conventional hire purchase with a Guaranteed Future Value (GFV) – including low monthly repayments – but gives operators extra options at the end of the term. The customer can choose whether to pay off the final lump sum and keep the vehicle, use the vehicle as a part exchange for a brand new one, or return it free of any further obligations, apart from an excess mileage charge if the initially agreed limit has been exceeded, and damage charges over and above fair wear and tear.

Dyce Carriers was founded in 1973 by Mr Moir’s parents David and Jean, with a Morris Minor van. The company serves mainly oil and gas businesses, and engineering firms, from its bases in Aberdeen and Fife, which also has extensive warehousing. The Poole operation was set up in 1996 to service Penreco’s Wytch Farm facility.
