Canter for Cappagh
First class customer service from Rygor was instrumental in civil engineering group Cappagh’s decision to order a new fleet of 7.5-tonne FUSO Canter tippers.
The Wimbledon-based contractor had already been won over by the Canter’s market-leading payload capacity, rugged durability, and the compact ‘footprint’ that makes it ideally suited to urban operation.
Cappagh, which last year celebrated its 40th anniversary, has taken delivery from Rygor’s Heathrow branch of 20 Canter 7C15s. All are on utilities duties and used mainly by tarmac gangs.
Plant Manager John Gormley says: “These vehicles are used to carry out utility work throughout the Greater London area. They transport debris away from site, while also bringing in tarmac and tools to complete the job.”
He continues: “The Canter is not too big, so relatively easy to manoeuvre in congested areas. And at 3,900 kg it will carry about half a tonne more than we’d get on a conventional 7.5-tonner, which represents a big ‘win’ in terms of productivity.”
Rygor, Britain’s largest Mercedes-Benz Dealer, is also responsible for sales and support of the popular FUSO light truck range. It took back 15 older Canters in part exchange, but Cappagh is also still running another 10 Canters which it purchased in 2012.
“Rygor have been extremely helpful,” continues Mr Gormley. “We first worked with them when they helped resolve one or two warranty issues we were having with our oldest Canters, which dated back to 2010. Their efficient sales service, coupled with the back-up we’ve received from the after sales team, was key to our decision to order these latest vehicles from Rygor.”
Cappagh was founded in 1973 by Tom Ferncombe, who remains as Chairman, while his son Michael is Managing Director. The Cappagh group of companies now boasts a combined annual turnover of more than £40 million and, in addition to its utilities operations, has interests in waste management, aggregates recycling, transport and plant, highways services and land remediation.
