L F Nicholls agree to be LS listed

The company was founded by Fred Nichols in 1910, our Grandfather, who started transporting milk and timber for local farmers in the nearby village of Wanstrow using horse and cart. Due to expansion, in 1930 the business moved to Witham Friary and was then transporting milk, timber and livestock.

Our Father Leonard, joined the company in 1935 at the age of 14 working with horses extracting timber from the woods, until the age of 17 where he started driving lorries, this led to the diversification into the transport of agricultural produce and bulk commodities. During 1982 a customer requested we move their mobile home; this was the beginning of the haulage business as it currently operates today.

Fred and Jess the two sons of Leonard took over in 1999 and together successfully run the company specialising in transporting static caravans, park homes, log cabins, touring caravans, boats and agricultural machinery. The photo is courtesy of and copyrighted to Ade Portlock.
