Arocs for Haulaway

East Sussex-based Haulaway has underlined its commitment to the environment by investing in one of the UK’s first, low-emission Mercedes-Benz Arocs eight-wheelers.

Supplied by local Dealer Rossetts Commercials, the Arocs 3245 is powered by a six-cylinder, 12.8-litre Euro VI engine that transmits its 330 kW (450 hp) output via a smooth-changing, standard-fit Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated gearbox. It has a ClassicSpace M day cab and is fitted with Hyva hook-loading gear and ‘easy sheet’ system.

Haulaway provides waste management services to trade and domestic customers. It operates a materials recycling facility at its headquarters in Hailsham, where it also crushes and screens aggregates to produce sub-base for resale, and supplies wheelie bins, skips and roll on-roll off bins with capacities of up to 50 cubic yards.

The family-owned company’s all-Mercedes-Benz fleet of 15 trucks includes skip-loaders from 12.5-18 tonnes gvw, 32-tonne grabs and tippers as well as hook-loaders, and 26-tonne Econic refuse vehicles.

Managing Director Colin Holloway says: “Our business is all about sustainability. We achieve high recycling rates through our various operations and vehicle systems, thus minimising the environmental impact and costs to our customers of sending waste to landfill.

“With its Euro VI engine the Arocs offers reduced emissions, while it is also noticeably quieter than our other eight-wheelers. So this impressive new vehicle can only reinforce the image of our company as an environmentally sensitive operator.”

The new arrival is now working alongside a similarly-equipped 8x4 Actros. “That truck has performed brilliantly and will be a tough act to follow,” says Mr Holloway.

“But I’m confident that the Arocs will live up to expectations. It is clearly built for the job and has fantastic ground clearance, while cab comfort is also much improved and early mpg returns of 7.5 mpg when fully freighted are very encouraging.”

Hailed as ‘The new force in construction’, the purpose-designed Arocs range of tractors and four-, six- and eight-wheeled rigids, is available in a huge range of variants and with gross weights from 18 to 250 tonnes.
