The history of Lorryspotting (2)

By early 2001 the site had increased to 33 hauliers being listed with the first Scottish haulier being the Hamilton based Yuill & Dodds. By this time the updating system had been transformed into an MS Access database that was replicated with a master database held on the server. There was a delay in some 2 hours from data being altered to appearing on the site itself. Colin and myself would spend many hours updating fleet details which strangely enough were easier to change than they are with our ultra modern update system we have now.About this time Dave Baxter started to help out with updates and uploading photos which was a facility that had just been added to the site and it was a strict one photo per vehicle, and the person uploading the photo had to have a good knowledge of HTML code to be able to post photos.Dave has been with us ever since and it was a pleasure to add his photo of a Royal Mail TU as the 100,000th photo uploaded to the site recently.

In March 2001 the facility to log personal spots was introduced so that members could access the database according to whether or not they had spotted a vehicle. At that stage little did we know that this facility would in years to come land us with a major problem that would cost tens of thousands of pounds to resolve.
